Agricultural Landscapes as a Basis for Promoting Agritourism in Cross-Border Iberian Regions

Areas with low levels of transformation are alternative destinations for tourists who prefer to visit nonmassified places and have singular experiences. The benefits these microdestinations their local populations, traditional products, landscapes, heritage, which, in turn, allow the cultural gastronomic roots be witnessed. Based on this assumption, present research investigated landscape preferences Tejo/Tajo International Transboundary Biosphere Reserve (Portugal/Spain), where Dehesa/Montado olive groves play important economic sociocultural roles. This investigation sought compare opinions those live there territory terms agritourism experience preferences. To this, 439 interviews were conducted, results extracted through descriptive analysis techniques parametric nonparametric tests understand different opinions. main that agricultural landscapes among most preferred, visitors tend give higher scores, while population has some ignorance its potential. potential was revealed motivation expressed by demand participate experiences contact followed participation activities people enjoy rural traditions. concept is often confused tourism nature tourism. Thus, it necessary develop a strategy support supply according authentic agritourism. In way, activity an role driving sustainable dynamics cross-border regions boosting new products based culture, nature, biodiversity characteristics protected area.
